Welcome

Welcome to the TXGenWeb Project site for Galveston County. The purpose of this site is to provide resource information and assistance in genealogical research in Galveston County. This site is supported by the League City Genealogical Society and Texas City Ancestry Searchers.

My name is Gina Heffernan and I'm your Coordinator for Galveston County, TXGenWeb. I grew up in Galveston County, my children were born there and my husband was born on the island. I don't live in Galveston County any more so I can't research for you but I may be able to help you find answers.

Galveston Island and the city that grew there and shares its name were once two of the most important places in the state and are rich in history and culture. The county has 12 incorporated cities, one village and about 11 unincorporated but established communities.

The Portal to Texas History contains a wealth of documents from Galveston County, including copies of newspapers! Don't forget to visit this awesome site.

We would like to thank Jim Turner, for establishing this project in 1997 and Betty Dunquez for carefully expanding and developing it through 2018. They worked diligently to supply the information included on these pages. A special thanks to Floyd "Lanny" Martin for all the transcription and photographic work.

Volunteer appreciation image Can't believe I've been here 15 years.
