- Dennis' birth certificate has Shephard. There are some Sheppards on the same page on the 1920 Federal Census. There are three spellings within Dave's family, Shepheard, Shepherd and Sheppard. It is NOT the result of a fight or a feud, just that spelling wasn't a real important issue in that era.
Nettie died when I was in the second grade and I remember three things vividly. My mom cried, so I cried. I remember trying to stay with her and people trying to get me away from her to calm me down. I remember walking behind the hearse from the chapel to the gravesite. It was an incredibly long walk to a 7 year-old. I also remember lying on my back on the ground in a field by her house and watching the clouds. There was an older person with me, possibly Uncle Bill or one of Mom's cousins.
