- Josephine Ida Heffernan Phipps, 91, of Galveston, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at her residence. She was born January 18, 1923, a BOI and lifelong resident of the island. Josephine graduated from Ursuline Academy and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a longtime member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Church.

Josephine Ida Heffernan Phipps, 91, of Galveston, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at her residence. She was born January 18, 1923, a BOI and lifelong resident of the island. Josephine graduated from Ursuline Academy and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a longtime member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Church.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Phipps; brother, Joseph Hartnett; and daughter, Patsy Phipps.
She is survived by her grandson, PJ Judia; nieces, Gigi Heffernan and Elizabeth Hartnett; and sister-in-law, Cele Hartnett.
Her family will receive visitors beginning at 1 pm, Monday, February 10th, at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral Mass will begin at 2 pm at the church with entombment following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ford, Wade Waege, John Gonzalez, and Joseph Andrews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P O Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-042.
