- Funeral Held Monday for Mrs. Oppen, 83
Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Oppen, who passed away at Lundberg Memorial Hospital Friday, Oct. 23, were conducted Monday morning at Hengstler's Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Ritterling, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Carlson, D.A. Van Deveer, Fred Hasenpflug, Herb Saloum, Cleo Parker and E.E. Jacobs.
Mrs. Oppen, 83, had lived in Creighton for 30 years. She had been in failing health and for about a year had resided at the Creighton Rest Home. She was moved to the hospital a few days before her death.
Lola McCracken was born Sept. 5, 1876 in Springfield, Mo. to Thomas and Virginia McCracken. She was the last surviving member of a family of nine.
On Dec. 14, 1896 she was married to Carl Oppen at Worthington, Minn. Five children were born to them. The family moved to Creighton in 1929. Mr. Oppen passed away Nov. 9, 1958.
Survivors include a son and daughter, James Charles of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Gurna Geneya Johnson of Oakland, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Two sons, Homer and Ralph and a daughter, Mabel, preceded both parents in death.
