  Our heavenly Father called Curtis Phipps home on Feb. 16, 2009. He fought a long, hard battle with lung cancer but stayed optimistic. He told the doctors to keep him alive so he could go to his class reunion in Madisonville next year to see his classmates and friends. Now, he's had a great reunion with our parents and sisters. He's left us all with love and sweet memories that we can always cherish. We know he's with our Lord, waiting for us to join them. Curtis died at his home in Pearland on Feb. 16. Funeral services were held on Feb. 19 at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland. Curtis was buried with full military honors at South Park Cemetery in Pearland. Curtis was born March 23, 1943, in Huntsville to Stanley and Mae Phipps. Curtis grew up in Madisonville and attended Madisonville schools. He enjoyed his horses, especially cutting horses. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mae Phipps, three sisters, Janie Sue Phipps, Dovie Patricia Phipps and Effie Karber; and niece Charlotte Hibbeler. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Phipps, daughter Stefanie Hall, son Timothy Crowson and wife Sharon; brother Ronnie Phipps and wife Glenda of Wheelock; sisters Marjorie Corgey and husband Cecil of Houston; Jessie Cassady of Columbus, Ohio, Edith Johnson and husband Sam of North Zulch, and Elizabeth Ellison of Alvin; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Hall, Kelsee Hall, Hayden Crowson and Lauren Crowson; mother-in-law Gloria Cronin of Willis; numerous nieces and nephews; and by his dear friend Dennis Flowers. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
