Dirt Track Racing
Since I moved to my new home, I got excited about dirt track racing. We have two tracks within driving distance of my home. Eastex is a quarter mile track. and Thunder Mountain is a half mile track.
My father-in-law drove race cars in the 40s and 50s and decided to buy a car two years ago. Instead of hiring a driver, he drove it himself. Then he bought a second car. After off and on running last year, trying to "work out the kinks", he ended up in the Top Ten at Eastex. Not bad for a 70 year old man, huh?
This year (2001) we have two cars and are planning on running at both tracks. We've already blown an engine and dropped a driveshaft, but on April 15 George won both his heat race and the main event in his class. As soon as we get the engine replaced in the 2nd car, I'm going to try my hand at driving.
