ALEXANDER, JACK - Jack Alexander, 88, of Texas City, passed away Friday, August 15, 2003 at Mainland Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Jack was born September 10, 1914 in Fredrick, Oklahoma. He moved to Texas City in 1924 and was Tax Assessor-Collector and Secretary of the School Board for Texas City ISD for 32 years. He was also manager of the Texas City Teachers Federal Credit Union. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Texas City and a senior member of the Texas City Kiwanis Club where he served as its Secretary/ Treasurer for 31 years. ALEXANDER, JANET ANN - Dickinson - Janet Ann Alexander, 66, of Dickinson, Texas residing in Bayou Chantilly since 1963, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 9, 2003. She was born February 13, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio.Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Alexander and parents, Byron and Francis King. Survivors include her three daughters, Julie Alexander of San Leon Texas, Kathy Boles and husband, Carrolton of Red Rock, Texas and Shelly Alexander and finance', Ralph Zimmer of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Bruce Alexander and Donna Jackson of Dickinson; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Acree Alexander; daughters Donna and husband Jim Bennink and Judy and husband Paul Bailey; granddaughters: Keri Jones, Michelle Williams, and Catie Brow; and 6 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include Jean Letsos, niece; Joe Burkett, nephew; Dorothy Alexander, sister-in-law; and Boyd Acree, brother-in-law.

So was the life of Deacon Johnie Alexander, who was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2003. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 2728 Avenue K in Galveston. A wake will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Deacon Alexander, a longtime resident of Galveston, Texas and after retirement, Hitchcock, Texas, was born May 17, 1912, in Palestine, Texas to the late George and Lucinda Paige Alexander. He was a faithful member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, member of the Brotherhood and Male Chorus serving until his health failed. Deacon Alexander is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and eight sisters. Mr. Allen was born March 24, 1920, in Lacassine, Louisiana to the union of the late John Leo and Lily Gallien Allen. He was reared in Lake Charles, Louisiana and attended school there. He has been a resident of Galveston County since 1947. He was employed by Union Carbide and retired after 31 years of dutiful service. After his retirement, he spent his time doing the things he loved best, fishing, hunting and cooking some of the best Creole food this side of the Mississippi! He was a member of Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City. His fraternal affiliations include member, Industrious Lodge #212 Knights of Pythias; Inner Guard and member of the Board of Directors - Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias; and Pride of LaMarque Court #457 of Calanthe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester All and Austin Allen; two sisters, Esther Allen and Queen Esther Washington; a son, Harold Carlton Allen Jr.; a devoted daughter-in-law, Rochelle Childs and two very devoted sisters-in-law, Lillian Stoneham and Johnnie Mae Batiste.
He leaves his legacy of love and undying devotion in the hearts of his family; the love of his life, his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Mrs. Jessie Clarke Allen of La Marque; six children, Ula Childs, Leroy Childs, Earl Ray Childs (Gloria) of Texas City, Beverly Allen of Beaumont, Bessie M. Nelson and Carolyn Allen Tottenham of Houston; goddaughter, Michelle Roberson; three loving daughters-in-law, Aubra Jeanette Boyd of League City, Josi Childs of Friendswood and Georgia Childs of Texas City; sons-in-law, James Nelson of Midland and Calvin Tottenham of Texas City; a brother, Leo Allen Jr. (Jimmie) of Seattle, Washington; four sisters, Ruth Duhon, Ruby Duhon both of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Ida Washington (Claude) of Bellvue, Washington and Elizabeth Fuller (James) of Sacramento, California; four very devoted sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burke of Galveston, Margie Edwards, Lillie Brooks and Sadie Brocket all of Texas City; fourteen grandchildren, Cynthia Robbins, Leory Childs Jr., LaRhonda Mohammad, Demont Booker, Freda Booker, Earl Childs Jr., Nikki Childs, Angela Allen, Tracey Allen, Andre Allen, Jamon Nelson, Brion Nelson, Jacque Allen and Jacqueline Allen; nineteen great-grandchildren; two very close and devoted friends, Lewis Simpson and Cleo Callis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. ALLEN, JAMES EDWARD SR. - Los Angeles, CA - – James Edward Allen Sr. was born April 3, 1944 in Galveston, Texas, one of six children born to Mr. Fred G. and Mrs. Annie Lee Rue Allen. James accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Rev. Sylvester George of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. ALTON, CARL - Dickinson - Another star joined the heavens as Carl Alton departed this life on Friday, September 5, 2003. Carl was born in Oklahoma on August 29, 1913, but moved to Texas and was a resident of Dickinson for more than 50 years. AUGUST, SR., REV. BRUCH A. - Richmond - Rev. Bruce A. August, Sr., 46, received his reward of eternal rest on Thursday, November 27, 2003, at UTMB Hospital in Galveston. Bruce was born December 31, 1956, in Galveston, Texas, to the late Wilbert, Sr. and Velma August. He was a graduate of Ball High School class of 1975, and went on to further his education by attending Sam Houston University in Huntsville, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While attending Sam Houston, he also became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as Chaplain of the local chapter. Bruce was a longtime member of the Avenue L church where he served as an Associate Minister, working with the Youth Dept. and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School. He was employed with the Texas Department of Correction, where he served in many supervisors' capacities, rising up to the rank of Assistant Warden at the Jester III Unit. He was affiliated with the West Ft. Bend County Heart Assoc., Pecan Grove Athletic Assoc. and volunteered with many other youth organizations, because he really had a passion for kids and tried to be a positive influence on their lives.
